Vacancy - Assistant Editor for Clinical Oncology
Published monthly, the journal boasts an international readership and excellent reputation. It is a highly valued member benefit, underpinning research and education for our Faculty of Clinical Oncology. Editorial independence and a large team of expert editors and reviewers ensures high-quality research, which is not only a key member benefit to RCR members, but also of value to the world.
Assistant Editors play a key role in facilitating the editorial work of the journal. In the role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of peer review, working within a team of skilled editors and reviewers to enhance the journal's reputation and impact factor.
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with backgrounds in the following specialties:
· Neuro-oncology
· Breast cancer
· Gynaecology
· Sarcomas
· Paediatric oncology (including both clinical and medical oncologists)
· Radiobiology (including both clinicians and scientists)

Clinical Oncology has been published continually since 1989, and now boasts an impact factor of 3.200. Published 12 times a year, Clinical Oncology features a combination of high-quality original research, informative editorials and state-of-the-art reviews on all aspects of the clinical management of cancer patients including pathology, diagnosis and (radio)therapy, and systemic treatment.
You will be joining a dynamic, passionate and expert team based across the UK and around the globe. As an Assistant Editor, you will have the opportunity to discuss and advise on key editorial initiatives and to support the Editor-in-Chief in the day-to-day operation of Clinical Oncology. You will ensure that all journal content is relevant to clinical oncologists and meets the ethical and scientific standard for publication, in the process developing your CV, expanding your professional network, and contributing to the public good.
What you will be working on as an Assistant Editor:
· You will assist the Editor-in-Chief in publishing a high-quality, high-impact and readable journal.
· You will discuss and advise on key editorial initiatives and help to resolve editorial challenges, drawing on your specialty expertise.
· You will help to determine the journal's ethical standards and ensure these are met at all times.
· You will work with a large and international pool of editors and reviewers to help attract papers to the journals.
· You will discuss and advise on any ideas/initiatives that might be put forward to the Journals Board.

It is essential that you have worked as a consultant, clinical scientist or scientist for at least three years, and have previous editorial experience working for a journal. We would be particularly happy to receive applications from groups that are under-represented in clinical oncology and/or academic journal editing. An awareness of the emerging areas of interest in both oncology and scientific journal publishing generally would be an advantage.
