Resident Doctors: Leaders of the future

Our Resident doctors are the future leaders of clinical teams. However, many Residents and trainers are concerned that changes to service delivery and staffing models are limiting Residents’ training opportunities.  

This document, developed by a specialist Task and Finish Group, sets out our recommended principles for addressing these current challenges to support Resident doctors in our specialties throughout their training and beyond.  

We have shared this document widely across the NHS, focusing on those directly responsible for the recommendations – including directors of training programmes and senior leaders within NHS England who oversee workforce policy. You can read the letter we sent to NHS England leadership here.
