Equipped for the Future: Diagnostics equipment in NHS England – the case for investment

We have published a new policy report on diagnostic imaging equipment which refreshes and hones our recommendations on the provision of much-needed scanners, making the case for greater investment in radiology services for the benefit of patients.
LEARN MORE

Our report sets out the key problems facing radiology services with regards to their equipment, including: insufficient numbers of scanners, ageing and dysfunctional scanners, a lack of funding to renew stocks, a lack of staff time to improve infrastructure, and a lack of skilled staff to operate scanners and interpret their images.

We make the case that long-term sustainability of diagnostic radiology services - which underpin most patient pathways - depends on addressing these issues. The report sets out clear recommendations for government and the NHS. They complement the RCR's work to make the case for greater investment in the radiology and oncology workforces. If acted on, these recommendations would help the NHS to reduce diagnostic waiting times and improve patient outcomes.

We will be engaging with policymakers across the political spectrum and throughout the NHS to make the case for greater investment.
