Briefing on AI to support radiotherapy auto-contouring

AI-powered auto-contouring software (AIAC) can help oncologists plan radiotherapy treatment quickly and more accurately. It can reduce the time from CT to plan completion by up to nine days. 

Given delays in radiotherapy access – which are a significant factor behind poor 62-day wait performance – we believe this would be impactful, supporting workforce productivity, timely access to treatment for patients and government targets.

We have a 15% shortfall of clinical oncologists, with overwork and burnout presenting major challenges. Oncologists find this technology can help their productivity, freeing up time for other tasks and supporting work-life balance. 

There is major advantage to a well-coordinated national programme, which would ensure national rollout and ensure that rollout is successful.
