Transforming how we deliver our publications

Article by: Dr Qaiser Malik

Exciting changes are coming this autumn. We're transforming how we deliver our publications by moving our monthly journals exclusively to an online format and relaunching the RCR Newsletter as a quarterly magazine, packed with in-depth features on the issues that really matter to you.

New RCR magazine

Following feedback from our Insight Panel, our new magazine will introduce exclusive interviews that look at a wide range of issues through the eyes of our Fellows and members, along with news and views, a dedicated section for trainees and much, much more. We have also appointed a highly experienced health editor who brings 25 years of editing and journalistic experience in the field of health, supported by Clinical Editors in each of our specialties to ensure our magazine is a must-read.

The magazine will continue to be published in both print and digital formats. The first edition of the magazine will arrive this autumn, and if you don't already receive a printed magazine and would like to, you can update your mailing preferences here.

Journals

For decades, the Clinical Radiology and Clinical Oncology journals have covered cutting-edge research, editorial insights and review articles on all aspects of diagnostic imaging and the clinical management of cancer patients.

Recent changes in the academic publishing industry have seen most journals move online, making it very competitive to secure the best content and contributors for traditional print publications. Feedback from our Insight Panel also revealed that twice as many of our members would prefer the journals to be published online. Consequently, we have been working with our publisher, Elsevier, to bring our own journals up to the new industry standard, and we anticipate that this will bring many benefits. Some key changes include:

  • Being able to publish more articles at an increased frequency.
  • An article-numbering system, making it easier for you to search for and access content through the RCR's new website.
  • More efficient citations which are more easily discovered by search engines.
  • More interactive content including virtual special editions.
  • Investing in our digital presence through tailored emails and relevant social/multimedia content.

Elsevier has also committed to moving to net zero and is transitioning all its journals online as part of this, which will reduce CO2 emissions by eliminating print distribution.

Print versions of our journals will no longer be available after the August 2024 editions. To access the journals online, you will need a website login and an RCR membership. Our new open access journal, RCR Open, is also available online, publishing research across both faculties.

We're constantly reviewing our website to improve the experience of accessing the journals and if you have any feedback or comments, please email them to: [email protected].
