The RCR publishes national guidance for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) or intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in anal cancer

This practical and evidence-based guidance aims to standardise IMRT and VMAT treatment for anal cancer across the UK ensuring all anal cancer patients can fully benefit from these advanced radiotherapy techniques.

The guidance has been in use since 2015 and formed the basis of the PLATO (PersonaLising Anal cancer radioTherapy dOse) trial. It is anticipated that the techniques described will evolve as the trial results are published.
