New publication: Sedation, analgesia and anaesthesia in radiology, third edition

We are pleased to announce the publication of the guidance Sedation, analgesia and anaesthesia in radiology, third edition 2024. This edition replaces the previous version published in 2018. 

It is aimed at those working in radiology teams where sedation is used. This update builds on the foundation established by the prior version in 2018,  with a greater focus on defining standards of care for healthcare organisations and departments to ensure sedation and analgesia practice is safe and effective.

Lead author Dr Narayan Karunanithy said: “It was a privilege to collaborate with the working party and the RCR to update this guidance document. Sedation, analgesia and anaesthesia ensure patient comfort and safety during many radiological procedures. Our goal was to create a practical framework that empowers radiology departments and clinicians to deliver the highest quality care. We hope this document will serve as a valuable resource for ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate patient experiences.”

The RCR extends its gratitude to Dr Karunanithy and the working group in the development of this guidance.
