Purpose of assessment
The Final FRCR (Part A) Exam expects candidates to have a wide knowledge of malignant disease and the management of patients with cancer. The main emphasis is on radiotherapy and drug therapy, but a good knowledge of general medicine, surgery and gynaecology is expected. Candidates are examined against the specialty training curriculum for clinical oncology. The Final FRCR (Part A) Exam comprises two papers/sessions of 120 single best answer (SBA) questions each.
The Final FRCR Exam purpose of assessment statement details the exam's purpose, the required level of candidate training and the application of results. It is hoped that the statement will assist candidates, and those involved in their training, in understanding the scope of the FRCR exam and with relating the exam to other in-training assessments.
Clinical oncology curriculum
The curriculum provides a training framework, describing the standard required to achieve a certificate of completion of training (CCT) and the expected levels of progress throughout training.
