There are two clinical radiology and two clinical oncology committee member positions open for election.

The Royal College of Radiologists recognises the significant diversity present throughout our Fellows and members. We welcome that diversity and recognise the RCR is better placed to achieve its aims when those diverse voices are an integral part of all that we do. We know barriers exist across a wide range of RCR activities - which are not always apparent - to Fellows and members, including our trainee colleagues. We are committed to ensuring that diversity in all its forms is reflected at all levels in the work undertaken by the RCR.

The Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee provides strategic oversight and advice direct to the Trustee Board on the equality, diversity and inclusion work of the college. 

The Committee has four overarching purposes

  • To provide advice and guidance to the Trustee Board on EDI,
  • To provide recommendations to the Trustee Board on the College’s EDI priorities and its EDI plan,
  • To monitor the progress against the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Plan and to provide assurance to the Trustee Board that EDI objectives and activities are aligned to, and embedded within the broader range of strategic objectives for the College,
  • To improve the breadth of representation across protected characteristics in the work of the College, widen participation and tackle discrimination and differential attainment through advising and guiding the Trustee Board.

EDIC members may be asked to contribute to RCR communications including blogs and personal profiles. Elected members of the EDI Committee may from time to time be invited to join the RCR Honours Committee. 

This role description should be read in conjunction with the Terms of Reference for the EDI Committee.

Eligibility & term of office

Elected members of the EDI Committee will be Fellows of the Royal College of Radiologists in good standing, holding a current licence to practise in the UK.  Each elected member will serve a term of three years.  An elected member retiring from the EDI Committee will not be eligible for re-election until a period of one year has elapsed.

The RCR is seeking to expand diversity on all its boards and committees, and actively encourages those from all backgrounds, including under-represented groups, to apply for this role.

The appointee will need to work within the Values of the College, its Code of Conduct and subscribe to its Objects as a registered charity and Chartered body.

Election process

Eligible Fellows must be nominated and seconded by Fellows in good standing. They will provide written consent of their willingness to stand and will be elected by ballot of eligible UK Fellows. Elections will be run by electronic ballot centrally through the Royal College of Radiologists. 

Time commitment

The EDI Committee meets no less than three time annually, with usually at least one meeting being held face to face. Remote options are available for all meetings. Additionally, you may be asked to comment on or give advice on EDI issues at other times through email.
