Advanced Gynaecology – Brachytherapy Workshop

As Bristol’s Gynae Brachytherapy lead, Dr Booz developed the service 
from conventional to MRI-planned interstitial Brachytherapy. Her regular 
involvement in GEC ESTRO’s clinical trials has placed Bristol on the 
world map for advanced Brachytherapy techniques. De Booz set up and has led the BGOC annual course since 2014, recently accredited by the RCR. 

As a Visiting Professor at Ain-Shams University, Egypt, Dr Booz set-up the 
Brachytherapy service, including theatres, training and guidelines. 

She currently chairs BGCS quarterly complex radiotherapy meeting, 
discussing complex gynae cases and since 2022 she has been elected as the BGCS Clinical Oncology Council Representative and selected to the RCR Consensus steering group.

Professor Hoskin trained in clinical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital London and has been a consultant in clinical oncology at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Northwood since 1992. Professor in Clinical Oncology in the University of Manchester and Honorary consultant in clinical oncology at the Christie Hospital, Manchester. Research interests focus on radiosensitisation, biomarkers, radiotherapy quality assurance, palliative radiotherapy, and brachytherapy.

Dr Alexandra Taylor is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in the treatment of primary and recurrent gynaecological cancers with radiotherapy, brachytherapy, Cyberknife treatment and chemotherapy. She is Chair of the London Cancer Alliance Gynaecology Oncology Pathway Group.

Dr Taylor undertook her medical training at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, and then Guy’s Hospital, University of London, where she was awarded the Treasurer’s Medal for Medicine. She completed specialisation in Clinical Oncology in the pan-London training scheme in 2003.

She subsequently completed an MD thesis at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the University of London. Her research focused on the development of novel radiotherapy techniques with IMRT for cervical cancer. She was supported by a grant from the Royal College of Radiologists and the work has been published and presented at international meetings.

Dr Taylor has a particular interest in advanced radiotherapy technologies, including IMRT, image-guided brachytherapy and CyberKnife treatments. She is actively involved in research, with ongoing projects exploring novel radiotherapy techniques for recurrent gynaecological cancer, IMRT applications and integration of functional imaging with radiotherapy planning. She is a member of the National Clinical Studies Group for Gynaecological Cancer.
