3rd Thoracic Imaging Masterclass

Professor Sujal Desai is a consultant radiologist with a specialist interest in imaging of interstitial lung diseases. Professor Desai trained in radiology at King’s College Hospital and was awarded the Royal College of Radiologists’ “Gold Medals” for performance in both the Part I and Part II FRCR examinations. He undertook research at Royal Brompton Hospital leading to the award of an MD in 1998 by the University of London. Professor Desai continues to lecture widely at national and international meetings. He is a past President of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging and a member of the prestigious Fleischner Society.

Dr Padley is a cardiothoracic and interventional radiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital. He has been a radiology department chair at both Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital in the past. He was an executive committee member of the British Society of Cardiovascular
Imaging. He has served as a panel member for NICE Cardiac CT guidance, MRHA, HTA interventional devices group and NHS London commissioning group for interventional radiology. He has undertaken wide ranging research, publishing and editorial duties and has maintained an academic output since 1987. 

Arjun is a Consultant Radiologist with a sub-specialty interest in cardiothoracic imaging at University College London Hospital and an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London. Arjun’s research interests include implementation, standardisation and quality assurance of lung cancer screening, integrating imaging biomarkers of cardiopulmonary health, and imaging of diffuse lung disease. Arjun was awarded the Thoracic Imaging Fellowship at the Royal Brompton Hospital between 2011 and 2013, and during this time completed his thesis on “Computed Tomography Reading Strategies in Lung Cancer Screening”, for which he was awarded an MD by the University of Edinburgh in 2014. He has been actively involved in a number of lung screening trials in the course of his research, beginning with the UK Lung Screening Pilot trial in 2011 and continuing through the SUMMIT Lung cancer screening study over the last 5 years. Arjun was appointed Joint Clinical Lead for the National Targeted Lung Health Checks programme in 2019. Arjun is the author/co-author of several peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters on cardiothoracic imaging. He is currently a member of several committees, including the European Society of Thoracic Imaging Diploma Committee and the British Thoracic Society Pulmonary Nodule Guideline Development Group.

Anthony has been a Consultant Thoracic Radiologist at North Bristol NHS Trust since 2010. He trained in radiology at King's College Hospital in London and then did a post-CCT fellowship at the Royal Brompton with David Hansell. He has been the BSTI Lead for Guidelines and Honorary Secretary and is currently the Responsible Radiologist for the Somerset, Avon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Targeted Lung Health check service. Anthony has particular clinical interests in pleural disease and lung infections but also enjoys supporting clinical research and teaching. He is regularly asked to speak at National and International
meetings.
