Travelling Professor Scheme
LEARN MOREThe RCR are delighted to continue supporting the delivery of the successful Travelling Professor Scheme in partnership with the Special interest groups (SIGs).
The role of the Travelling Professor is to visit a several training programmes to deliver lectures or study days to highlight their radiology specialty and promote best practice.
Each participating SIG and along with the RCR contribute matched funding for each professorship to covers travel expenses for the appointee, event overheads and any recordings generated by the Travelling Professor presentations.
The purpose of the award is:
- To highlight the radiology specialty in the UK
- To promote best practice with regards to acquisition and reporting techniques
- To promote the radiology specialty as a specialist interest in future careers
- To provide specific radiology teaching at both trainee and consultant level to centres that might not have access to such training opportunities.

Appointed travelling professors
Dr Ata Siddiqui is a Consultant Neuroradiologist based across King’s College Hospital, Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals and Evelina London Children’s Hospital. His main subspecialty areas are Diagnostic Neuroradiology and Head & Neck Imaging. Alongside his busy clinical practice, he also publishes regularly and is also a keen
teacher, having lectured at numerous courses worldwide. As a council member of the BSHNI he was instrumental in co-developing the BSHNI educational webinar programme in 2020-21.
Lalani is a Consultant Neuroradiologist in London practicing in diagnostic neuroradiology and spinal intervention. She is an avid medical educator, lecturing widely, holding nationally appointing education roles and has won several awards for her education and innovation work. She is internationally renowned expert in the field of spinal CSF leaks, and her passion is to educate others on this topic.
Helen is a Consultant Neuroradiologist in Leeds subspecialising in paediatric and foetal neuroimaging. A committed educator, she helps radiologists develop skills in paediatric neuroimaging. Having completed fellowships at Bupa and NHS England, Helen aims to encourage other radiologists to realise the potential of their transferable skills.
Dr Sarah McWilliams is Consultant Breast Radiologist at St George’s Hospital with an interest in Training as FRCR Examiner, RCR Global Education member and organiser of courses worldwide. Interests include Breast MRI, Contrast Mammography, Breast Implants and Principal Investigator in St Georges for the
multicentre FAST MRI trial.
Dr Mendichovszky is a Consultant Radionuclide Radiologist based in Cambridge with clinical and research expertise in molecular imaging of urogenital malignancies, diffuse kidney disease and endocrine disorders. He is the current National Training Programme Director for Nuclear Medicine and teaching faculty member on the nuclear medicine postgraduate programme at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
Dr Adu is a Consultant Paediatric Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist at St George’s Hospital. His interests include chest imaging,
trauma and intervention.
He underwent surgical training prior to commencing Radiology training at the Barts and the London scheme. Following this, he undertook two subspecialty fellowships in paediatric diagnostic radiology and paediatric
interventional radiology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
He is an enthusiastic educator and is the current RCR/BSPR Travelling Professor. He is involved in delivering undergraduate and post graduate
radiology training locally, nationally and internationally.
Anthony has been a Consultant Thoracic Radiologist at North Bristol NHS Trust since 2010. He trained in radiology at King's College Hospital in London and then did a post-CCT fellowship at the Royal Brompton with David Hansell. He has been the BSTI Lead for Guidelines and Honorary Secretary and is currently the Responsible Radiologist for the Somerset, Avon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Targeted Lung Health check service. Anthony has particular clinical interests in pleural disease and lung infections but also enjoys supporting clinical research and teaching. He is regularly asked to speak at National and International
meetings.
Arjun is a Consultant Radiologist with a sub-specialty interest in cardiothoracic imaging at University College London Hospital and an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London. Arjun’s research interests include implementation, standardisation and quality assurance of lung cancer screening, integrating imaging biomarkers of cardiopulmonary health, and imaging of diffuse lung disease. Arjun was awarded the Thoracic Imaging Fellowship at the Royal Brompton Hospital between 2011 and 2013, and during this time completed his thesis on “Computed Tomography Reading Strategies in Lung Cancer Screening”, for which he was awarded an MD by the University of Edinburgh in 2014. He has been actively involved in a number of lung screening trials in the course of his research, beginning with the UK Lung Screening Pilot trial in 2011 and continuing through the SUMMIT Lung cancer screening study over the last 5 years. Arjun was appointed Joint Clinical Lead for the National Targeted Lung Health Checks programme in 2019. Arjun is the author/co-author of several peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters on cardiothoracic imaging. He is currently a member of several committees, including the European Society of Thoracic Imaging Diploma Committee and the British Thoracic Society Pulmonary Nodule Guideline Development Group.
Dr (Prof) Rajesh Botchu is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist whose NHS base is the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. After completing his radiology training in Leicester, he completed subspecialty training in musculoskeletal radiology at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, Nuffield Orthopedic Centre, Oxford and CIM. Geneva, Switzerland. He has co-authored over 376 peer reviewed scientific papers, 41 chapters, co-edited three books and maintains a strong research interest. He has described several signs and classifications which include Haleem Botchu classification, Iyengar Botchu confluence, rising root sign, snake sign, Aamer-Botchu sign. His specialist interest include bone and soft tissue tumour, spine and sports. He is the co-founder of MSK Radiology4u free teaching website and app.
