Head and neck cancer RCR consensus statements

Date: 2022
Date of next review: 2026
LEARN MORE

The RCR consensus process was initially developed in 2016 to help reduce variation in UK radiotherapy practice. The head and neck cancer consensus statements should serve as a practical stimulus for head and neck cancer teams to review their current radiotherapy service to ensure that they are able to deliver optimal treatment for their patients. They should be adopted in parallel with relevant National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance.

The areas covered by the consensus statements in this document are:

  1. Gross tumour volume (GTV) to clinical target volumes (CTV) margins
  2. Unilateral radiotherapy to the oropharynx
  3. Reducing the CTV to improving organ sparing
  4. Adjuvant contralateral neck irradiation following surgery for oral tongue
  5. Induction chemotherapy
  6. Radical reirradiation in head and neck cancer
