5th National RCR Radiology Events and Learning Meeting (REALM)

Event overview

Following the well received and sold out previous conferences in Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Bristol, we continue to bring our REAL conference to areas around the UK.

This year's theme is The right kind of REALM - can having a regular educational cases meeting improve the culture of your department?. At this conference you'll hear from local radiologists about how they run their REAL meetings, and utilise their expertise as they present the popular "4 Pitfalls" sessions highlighting the areas that commonly lead to errors in their speciality for a general reporting audience.

This year we are focusing on how the REALM can influence the culture of a department in a positive way, providing a safe space to discuss the inevitable errors that we all make without blame or shame.

Our international keynote speakers include Harvard Professor Amy Edmondson, author of The Right Kind of Wrong, Professor Margaret Heffernan, author of Wilful Blindness and Professor Lane Donnelly, author of Fundamentals of Paediatric Imaging among others.

Learning objectives

  1. Familiarise yourself with the RCR standards, guidance and benefits of running a departmental REALM
  2. Learn about clinically important common pitfalls in different radiology specialities which lead to errors
  3. Discuss if a regular educational cases meeting can improve the culture of a radiology department
  4. Hear from international academics talk about workplace culture, learning from mistakes and developing a healthy and supportive working environment.

Who should attend?

  • Clinical radiology trainees
  • Clinical radiology consultants
  • Allied healthcare professionals

‘An excellent conference, thank you. As REALM lead for my trust, I gained a lot of useful tips and knowledge that I can apply to the local REAL meetings’

  • ‘Excellent course - I love these events - perfect balance of practical tips and
    interesting / thought-provoking talks’

‘Overall I think the College, or more precisely the local organisers, put on a really top class show, for which I’m hugely grateful. Everyone I spoke with was in agreement on this’
